Pimples

This is a sure fire shot at drying out the pimple as soon as it appears and ensuring it doesn't scar your skin. Many women across India and the rest of Asia (including me) have used this remedy during their teenage years and found it to be safest, healthiest and very effective.

Turmeric paste:

Here's how:
  • In a small bowl, add a quarter teaspoon turmeric powder. Add a few drops of water to it and mix in till it becomes a thick paste. Ensure your hands are washed and clean, and use your finger to mix this so you can gauge the thickness better. It should be a thick, smooth paste that can be easily applied onto your skin and stay on it. Not too dry that it crumbles and not too watery that it won't stick to your skin.
  • Gently apply this paste with your finger onto the pimple so it's fully and thickly covered by the turmeric paste. Let it dry on the pimple until if forms a thick, dry cover. Ideally, keep the pimple coated with the paste for about 4 - 5 hours. It will get totally dry and sometimes you may feel a slight stretching or tingling on the pimple. It's fine to feel that, this is merely the action of the turmeric drying on the wet pimple and drawing out the moisture within it.
  • Many folks like to do this at bedtime so it stays on all night and goes to work on the pimple. If you're doing this, cover your pillow with an old towel, as the turmeric WILL stain it yellow and it's hard to wash out. (Tip: to remove the stain easily, apply lemon juice liberally on the stained spot on the towel, it will remove the stain).
  • Wash your face gently with warm water and pat dry. If you did this just as the pimple was beginning to form, very often you will find it has fully dried out.
  • Repeat the next day and you will find the pimple dries out totally, becomes flat and is not so visible. The most important thing is that it will leave no scarring as it dries out and vanishes. Also, you did not apply any chemicals on your face.

Turmeric is good for your skin because of the phytochemicals in it - research has shown that Curcumin, an alkaloid in Turmeric, has proven anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties. Turmeric has been used in many cultures (including India) for centuries for not just food but also as a skin treatment, for precisely these reasons.

  1. Doesn't turmeric stain your face yellow? Although temporarily.
