DescriptionThyme originates from Asia, southern Europe and the Mediterranean region. In addition to its culinary usages, Thyme has been relished for its aromatic properties since ancient times. For example, the ancient Greeks burned thyme as incense in sacred temples for its aromatic qualities. Thyme’s leaves are curled, and extremely small measuring an eight of an inch long and half as wide1. Thyme comes in over sixty different varieties including French thyme, lemon thyme, orange thyme, and silver thyme. Fresh thyme is often preferred over dried thyme due to its superior flavor1. Fresh thyme should have a green-gray color with no dark spots or yellowing.

Kitchen Pharmacy: Thyme contains thymol, which helps treat bronchitis, common colds, digestive disorders, insomnia, and is used as an antiseptic. Thyme is also a great source of antioxidants, potassium, calcium, iron, magnesium, manganese, vitamin A, vitamin K, vitamin E, and vitamin C.
